Italian Baroque Era Painter, 1642-1709 Italian painter, architect and stage designer. He was a brilliant quadratura painter, whose most celebrated works, such as the decoration of the church of S Ignazio in Rome, unite painting, architecture and sculpture in effects of overwhelming illusionism and are among the high-points of Baroque church art. He was a Jesuit lay brother and produced his most significant work for the Society of Jesus. This affiliation was fundamental to his conception of art and to his heightened awareness of the artist's role as instrumental in proclaiming the faith and stimulating religious fervour. Adriaen Frans Boudewijns
Adriaan Frans Boudewyns, not Anton Frans (Bauduins, or Baudouin), (3 October 1644 - 3 December 1719) was a Flemish Baroque landscape painter. He was born at Brussels and learned to paint under a landscape painter named Ignatius van der Stock, and was received into the Guild there in 1665. He then travelled to Paris in 1666 and studied under A. F. van der Meulen for three years, and whose daughter Barbara he married 12 January 1670. In 1674 his wife died and in 1681 he moved back to Brussels where he married again. According to Houbraken he was a good landscape painter who encourage Gerard Hoet to stay in Brussels for 8 months in the 1680s. His son Frans Boudewijns (1682-1767) also became a successful painter. He was ruined in the bombardment of Brussels in 1695. Adriaen Fransz. Danish 1804-1880 Constantin Hansen Galleries Danish painter. In 1816 he entered the Kongelige Akademi for de Sk?nne Kunster, Copenhagen, intending to study architecture; however he later became attracted to painting and worked under C. W. Eckersberg from 1828 to 1833. Around the middle of the 1820s he started developing an individual style of portraiture, which had matured by 1830. He often used his sisters and friends as models; using simple costumes, poses and compositions, he managed to endow his pictures with the intimacy and warmth that mark the Danish Golden Age. The Artist's Sisters Signe and Henriette Reading a Book (1826; Copenhagen, Stat. Mus. Kst) is a fine example of his combination of natural observation with Neo-classical idealization. Under Eckersberg, who encouraged both, he strengthened his natural flair for painting serene architectural views of Copenhagen.
